Sheffield Innovation Programme collaborates with local world leading foundry

Sheffield-based SME, Castings Technology International (Cti) Limited, is the world’s leading provider of production, innovation, technology, expertise, and services to the cast metals sector together with its global supply chain.

In autumn 2021, Cti hosted Sheffield Hallam University’s Dr Quanshun Luo and Antony Davies to initiate and explore how the Sheffield Innovation Programme could be used to support Cti with a range of innovation focused projects.

In March 2022, Sheffield Hallam reciprocated the visit and were delighted to host the Cti senior team at the Materials and Engineering Research Institute (MERI). A range of projects and collaboration opportunities were discussed, followed by a tour of MERI’s facilities and laboratories, which allowed Cti to see the extensive equipment available for corrosion testing, materials characterisation, mechanical testing and materials research and failure investigation.

Both parties are excited by the collaborative R&D opportunities that working together will bring and have identified several immediate projects to explore.

Thanking Sheffield Hallam University for its hospitality, Cti Executive Chairman, Kevin Parkin said: “Please pass my thanks to all the team who did an excellent and professional job today. Our team were blown away by the opportunities and we look forward to some positive interaction between us. Thanks so much for facilitating the superb visit today and I look forward to some meaningful interactions between the teams in the future.”
